Stuffing Turkey

Having prepared your stuffing you're ready to begin stuffing your turkey; or are you? Follow these simple steps and you will be.

1. If your Turkey is frozen make sure it is properly thawed, before stuffing. This is absolutely vital as several dangerous bacteria may lurk and not be killed by the heat of cooking.
2. You need to thoroughly clean the inside of your Turkey and remember to remove the giblets.
3. Ensure that your stuffing is cold before beginning.
4. If you intend to stuff the Turkey body cavity (and most experts do not recommend it) you must weigh the Turkey with the stuffing in and calculate the cooking time based on the total weight. See our guide here.
5. Do not make the stuffing too wet or too dry. If its too wet it will be stodgy and if too dry it will be too crumbly.
6. Use skewers and thread to close your Turkey. See our detailed guide here.
7. Place strips of streaky bacon over the closed ends and on the top of the Turkey add a little butter to "top off" if required.
